The Miraculous (& unwillingly) Only Child.... (WIP)

Spring – Gods season of Miracles.”

            -Kim Hyde, mother

I’m not supposed to be here.

I shouldn’t have survived.

I was not meant to be born.

But here I am sitting at this keyboard, sharing this story. Every time someone new hears my name, I am met with an onslaught of questions and jokes: “Hey Spring, where’s summer?”, “Hey Spring, you know it’s Fall?”, “Were your parents hippies or smoking something?”, “oh, you must have been born in the Spring.”, “Like a bed spring. Haha”, and so on. Each time I just smile and laugh and let them get their jabs in. It doesn’t bother me that they joke as I’ve heard most of the jokes before and when it’s a new one, I applaud them and let them know that it’s a good one. Most of the people who ask about my name aren’t genuinely interested, just want to know if my parents were hippies (no they weren’t) and if they were on something (again no). They have no real interest in knowing the true story, and if they push it and I tell them, they are awkward and regret asking and don’t know what to say.

What has brought about this topic is an incident that happened today. While at work, I ordered Jimmy Johns because I needed something fast and healthy (turkey unwhich for the win). The delivery guy (an older gentleman, all white haired) was asking our receptionist what nationality I was, trying to figure it out by my name. (Side note: this sort of lets you know his age since mostly our grandparents’ generation and back would ask this and held great interest in it. Not saying that our generation doesn’t, but it’s not as prominent as it was back in the depression era). He was shocked when I came up and I was white. We chatted a little and when I finally told him in layman’s terms that I was named Spring because “It’s Gods season of Miracles and I was a miracle baby” he shuffled uncomfortably and said “interesting”, took his receipt and left.

Now, I know it’s a topic that makes many uncomfortable. They don’t know what to say, if they should give condolences, keep quiet, etc.  I just want to say that you don’t have to say anything. I didn’t tell the story for you to feel uncomfortable and regret asking. I’m honest about it and I will tell you if you ask me. And I guess that’s why I felt the need to finally put this into writing. Let people know the reason why my mom named me Spring and how it has affected me and my life. And why I completely embrace my name, its namesake and the life I have.  This may take one blog, it may take many. I haven’t decided yet on how I will write this since I’m writing off the top of my head and from my heart. So I guess we will just have to see where they will take us.

My name is Spring, and I was born in the dead of night in the middle of winter.  12:02 am on December 19th to be exact.  I am an only child, but not by choice. I know that the moment I could talk and write, I asked for a sibling. I wanted a baby brother or sister to have adventures with, to fight with, to make memories with and to comfort each other when my parents were fighting. I didn’t want to be alone. I wanted someone who would see what was going on and be going through it also. Who was submersed in it the way I was. I wanted someone to love and to be family who was ALWAYS there, even if we weren’t talking to each other.
Every Christmas I wrote a letter to Santa asking for a sibling. When we went for pictures and I was asked by Santa what I wanted, I told him a baby brother or sister. For my birthday, that’s all I would ask for. This continued until I was in about 2-4 grade when my mom explained to me that she couldn’t have babies and she was getting her tubes tied (endometriosis and military doctors refusing to do a hysterectomy). From then on, I still begged Santa at Christmas for a miracle sibling.
When I was in 5th grade, my parents sat me down and told me that Santa Claus wasn’t real. Normally, a child would be upset. But not me. I switched tactics and started begging my parents to adopt since they couldn’t have their own children now.  No more letters to Santa, just a wishlist to my parents for birthdays and Christmases with Sibling at the top. When my mom finally got her hysterectomy, I knew that there was no chance of an accidental pregnancy (id read up on getting tubes tied and had read stories of rare pregnancies even though tubes were tied) and no chance of surrogacy or any other way of my parents having a baby.  During these times, I was constantly being teased about my name. I started going trying to go by Casey (nickname from my middle name) or Binker (family nickname) because I hated being teased about my name.
I forget when exactly it was, but I finally asked or she finally told me the reason from my name once I was in high school. She named me Spring because “Spring is Gods season for Miracles. And you were my miracle.”  I was her miracle baby. She had Miscarriages and false pregnancies before me (and I would find out many after me). They wanted more kids but because of her endometriosis, they couldn’t have anymore.  And they couldn’t afford treatments or surrogacy. She was lucky to have been able to have me and survive the labor (she had toxemia after giving birth to me).
I finally fully embraced my name, realizing that there was emotional meaning behind it. That people can tease me all they want and it didn’t matter. It was a badge of honor, proof of survival.
I wish I could say that this information helped my situation, helped me fill the void of being an only child. Up until I graduated, I continued my requests for a sibling. Begged my parents to adopt, that they wouldn’t have to worry about quitting jobs and such. I was more than happy to stay home and take care of my sibling. I finally stopped asking when I found out that there was a max age for adopters, 40 (this was years ago, I think it’s changed since then).  I was devastated that we had missed our opportunity, that I would never have a brother or sister all my own.
And that’s when I started developing a shopping habit. I somehow got in the mindset that I needed to buy stuff to fill the void that was left where I wanted a sibling. The ONE thing I couldn’t have. That I would NEVER have. It’s a terrible and longing ache that I suffer every day of my life. I struggle to curb the spending, the eating, the sleeping because it has gotten me into trouble. I know many people will look at this as “she’s making excuses for her behavior”, but those people don’t realize that there are things in our past that influences how we do things today. And this is one of my things.  I created this blog to help me overcome my battles, to help me become a stronger person and to heal my inner wounds.

NOTE FROM AUTHOR:  There was meant to be more to this specific blog post. More information, more details, more thought. But A) the blogger hates editing so she usually just posts as she finishes, B) she was working as she wrote this which is also why it ended suddenly and will be continued later, C) she is sleepy and distracted and hopes to add to this or focus on more information in a later blog as to why she chose the beginning paragraphs and some insight on an empaths POV….  Thank you for reading and hopefully will be able to update again soon…. ~SCH~

A broken train of thought... (that became Bambers oriented)

I am grateful.  This trip my family took to Hawaii was much needed, especially for my soul.  I remembered what it was to be happy over nothing. To just naturally smile for no reason whatsoever.  Ive started to refind myself again, and that makes my soul bloom.
I find myself: sitting at my desk as I’m entering part lists; watching tv; outside with the dogs for potty breaks; laying in bed; driving; etc., and I just smile for no reason whatsoever. I’m just genuinely getting back to my naturally happy self. And this is wonderful. It’s a momentous occasion for me.
I’ve had a creative block for the past 12 years. Still have some of it and am struggling, BUT with this creative block I’ve been struggling with depression, anxiety, losing sight of myself, forgetting what it means to be truly happy and forgetting to live in the moment. But thankfully, with this trip, I relearned what it meant to just sit down and enjoy all around me while I did nothing or wrote or read. Boards were pulled from my heart, from the walls Ive built around myself. I started to let myself feel again.
And yes, with this newfound rememberance of feelings, things hit harder. Bambs death hit harder. The tears come more frequently than before, but that’s because I’m letting myself feel instead of stuffing it down inside and letting it fester or trying to forget about it.  I let myself look for her til I remember that shes not here. Let myself remember what was hers and that roadtrips will never be the same. Sleep isn’t the same. Life will never be the same.

But then I remind myself that she taught me true love. She taught me how to look after another soul and to not be so selfish and narcissistic. She taught me how it feels to not be alone and to be loved unconditionally. Our bond was… is unique. To others she was just a dog or was ‘springs pooch’. To me, she was my child, my best friend, my soul mate.
She loved me no matter what I did. She knew when I was upset and comforted me. She never wanted anything but love, kisses, hugs, treats and food. And I was more than happy to comply. We shared everything.
I’m smiling through tears right now as I remember the times we would drive north and we would share an ice cream cone as I drove. Id have a few licks, then would reach over to her in her car seat and let her have a few licks and so on. To many this was disgusting, unsanitary, unheard of. To me, it was sharing with my loved one. It was the simplest thing, but it made us both so happy.
When we first got her, she was terrified of car rides. TERRIFIED. She would try to hide under the seats, burrow, anything she could to pretend she wasn’t in the car. But when we stopped, oh how she would love looking out the window or going exploring. As she got older (and my parents stopped smoking, we found out it was the windows cracked for their cigarette smoke that terrified her) she started to LOVE car rides. She would actually run out to the garage and climb into the car and into her car seat that I got her. (And let me tell you, that was the best $50 I ever spent. I still have that car seat too. Its been through some tough times, but I still have it.)  She would just look at me and whine, excited to get on the road. She was the best lil navigator and made my car trips enjoyable. And when I was the passenger in a car trip, she would lay in my arms like a baby. She HAD to be cuddled with momma no matter what.

And this is where the downfall of writing at work comes in. I’ve lost the tangent, the thought that sparked this piece. Lost where I was, where I wanted to go with it. I can’t be interrupted while I’m ‘on a roll’ because I will lose where I was at, will lose the energy and the drive that propelled me to write. And then I’m stuck with a barely finished thought. A ghost of what I wanted to create. But I guess it also means that I will just have to immerse myself into that moment again at a later time. See what I create then and where it takes me. Always two sides to a situation: the light and the dark.

(also, sorry for the post being all over the place and same with pictures. i'm at work, so couldn't edit it properly.)

Its been too long....

Lots of things have been happening and there has been a lot of nothing happening. Basically, i've gotten lost, forgotten, misplaced. And i'm trying to change that for 2015.

I will be revamping this blog, slowly. Its been awhile since i've been on it. For crying out loud, i still have Myspace links on it... :/  I'll be trying to get an actual blog schedule going because there is alot i want to write about and get caught up on. Many adventures and beginnings ahead for this year. :) And i plan on using this blog to regain some of my sanity.

So wish me luck, post ideas on ways to regain and keep said sanity and keep more organized, and so on. Also, hope every day is an adventure for everyone! :)

Semi-Impromptu trip...

So, in less then a week and a half, we had planned and made reservations to Hawai'i. I'm in the middle of our trip and am finally finding time to write something about it.  It has been absolutely amazing, gorgeous and breathtaking... But its also been aggrevating, pissy, and quite near to fucked up levels...

That being said, I'm happy that I was able to have this experience.  Despite the fights, the awkward moments, the conversations I shouldn't have overheard, the people ganging up on each other or against one person, etc... It has been absolutely glorious.

Instead of staying at a hotel or resort, we rented a house where the ocean is literally right behind the house.  So as I type this, it is dead silent except for the crashing of the waves.  it is absolutely beautiful.  I've got so many things running through my head and just don't know where to start... haven't known and don't know if I'll be ablet to find where to start...

I want to write, draw, catch up on homework, read, just spend some time with my thoughts... But again, don't know where to start.

Write a journal, poetry, start a story....?

Looks like i lost my chance... the waves and sleepiness are finally taking hold. guess I will have to put this on hold and try to start again tomorrow. :)

Paradise awaits me...

A journey of Me.... For me...

July 14-21 I'm heading out on a trip of my complete making.  Going to San Diego to see the Bride To Be and help plan and make some stuff for the wedding.  Then from there, i'm heading up to Anaheim, Monterey, Cambria, Yosemite, etc... I'm stressing about this trip because itll be my very first solo roadtrip of this magnitude.  But i'm also very excited.  I'm taking my dogs with me, so i'll definitely have companionship.
But i need help.  I really want to spend this time writing, drawing, taking pictures... Anything to try to recapture my muse and kick start my creative juices again.  I've been living in a stagnant situation for my life and i need to stop it.  I'm really hoping to turn this trip into a Self Discovery trip and figure out what it is that I want to do in my life and so on.
I'm not in a happy situation in my mindset, my heart or my life in general.  & I need to take this time to figure out my life plan, or at least a general guideline to get me back on track.  I'm almost 30 and i have no life savings, no degree (this matters to me because i know what i want to do, not because its demanded by 1/2 of society), no real travel experience under my belt, i haven't left the states since I was a baby, I have had no relationships and i've allowed myself to be suffocated by false and posionous "friendships".
I want to spend this time working on me emotionally, physically, mentally, creatively, etc.  In order to get past this point that i've allowed myself to get stuck in, I need to do something to resurrect my Muse and the goodness that my creativity and balance brought to me.

But i'm honestly unsure of how to do this and i think i'm going to get overwhelmed with 8 days on a trip, BY MYSELF... Alone with my thoughts... 0.o   I can already feel the pressure in my chest at just the idea of it.

So, where do I go to get ideas on how to get past this hump?  To get ideas to spark inspiration.  I'm not sure on where to look.  But i know i want to write, draw, paint, journal, photograph, etc....  Should I just see what pops into my head, or should I give topics for each day and just go from there?

As Of Late....

I've been having a hard time in all aspects of my life.  I've been losing little parts of me and have unsuccessfully been hunting for the pieces that i miss.  I used to draw, write, create ALL the time. There was never a waking moment that I was not creating something, or planning something to create.  I was happy, I was glowing, I was overflowing with MY talent.

Now, its almost as if my talent has dried up, like I'm creatively sterile.  And this thought scares the living daylights out of me.  I've never wanted to just Exist.  I wanted to live, explore, conquer, fail, retry, etc.  My younger, hopeful, creative self had such dreams and aspirations for me.  & I honestly have no clue where I lost myself.

Now, my days are full of me just trying to get through the day, hoping to have a free moment to create something but it never happening because I don't want it to take away from the thing that I need to do.  I've let responsibilities to life and 'whats expected' drown out the things that make me happy.

But I'm unsure of how to change this.  I don't know where to begin, what to do, where to go, nothing.  & I'm scared that if I don't get myself back on track, things are going to take a dark turn for my soul...

There is so much i need to get off my chest, and i don't know where to start...  Maybe I will force myself to sit down tonight at dinner and finally start gathering my thoughts.  Stop hiding from them...

Reason Why I LOVE May... (& a slight hint at how mad i truly am)

I live in Arizona, so I'm surrounded by Mexican Heritage pretty much 24/7/365... But, thankfully, I'm a Mexican Food FANATIC!!  & New Mexican Cuisine.  I crave it pretty much all day, every day.  Then you take that and multiply it by, oh lets say, INFINITY!! & that's how my Cravings are when I've been drinking.  So what has brought this tangent about?!?!

THIS!!

Today is our Companies annual salsa competition.  And boy, am I an addict for my salsa.  I kid you not.  If i smell salsa or even hear the word, you best put me into a straight jacket and tie me down because I will HUNT the salsa until its mine.  Now, i don't mind some store brand salsas.  Picante is a decent make do when I'm in a bind. Macayo's salsa is pretty damn good (even for it being mild) but only when you get it in the restaurant.  Most places serve a sweeter salsa and i have a hard time caring for it, but oh will i still eat it.  Its funny really, i used to only dip my chips in it and would throw the chunkies out.  But now, i will load the chip up with every chunky that can fit and hope that they have absorbed the sauce in their juiciness.  And because I have learned to embrace and love the chunkies, my new favorite when it comes to salsa is... HOMEMADE!! nothing beats homemade for me now!!  and I can't get enough of them.  I need to learn to make my own so i can have salsa on hand at my beckon call.

Moral of this whole blog is,
I LOVES ME SOME SALSA!!

Also, I really do need to become more of a cook, even if its just to give into my own madness... ;^{P

HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO EVERYONE!!

Trying to Save $ By Eating Healthy & Cooking At Home

Every time i look at my account balance and try to figure out where all my moneys gone and why haven't i been able to save something, i end up going through my transactions and see that the majority of my purchases are food related.  Whether its grocery stores or eating out.  I need to remedy this, and the best way i can think is by starting to plan meals and actually cooking for more then one meal.
But this is hard when I've never been much of a cooker and also when i mostly cook from bags, boxes and cans.  I'm unfortunately one of those 'lets do it the easy way' "chefs".  and i really would like to break this habit.  My wallet and health are being affected, and i think it would also be another great way to calm myself from the days events.

Now, with that in mind, I need as much help as possible to find healthy alternatives that are also cheap.  Easy recipes that a beginner can do, ideas on food plans for the week, etc.  I honestly don't know how my mom used to plan out the weeks meals and actually cook them without ever changing her mind.  I mean, she used to have calendars posted on the fridge of what she would make for breakfast, what shed be preparing for my school lunch, options i could have for after school snack, and finally what was going to be for dinner.
Its sad that I used to tease her about this and hated being on a schedule like that, and now that's all I wish I had.  I need to discipline myself and gain some will power.  Have a dinner planned and if something happens that i don't get home with enough time to make the meal and eat before a halfway decent time (730 pm), then i need a backup option.

But enough of the what i would like(s)... I need to focus on the actual cooking part.  Maybe if I actually started cooking and having more confidence in my "chef" skills, then I'll be able to have more confidence in starting and sticking to a schedule.

With that being said, a lovely coworker hooked me on this site:

Budget Bytes
It is an amazing site with many recipes on it and a nice step by step blog journey, costs, etc.  I have quite a few recipes saved that i cannot wait to try and this weekend or the next, I'll be cooking for the week.  :)  Here are just a few samples of what I would love to try:

Those are just a few that are on my list to try. But those are ones that I'm pretty sure I'll like no matter what. So keep your fingers crossed for me.  I'll hopefully be posting my success (or hysterically not so successful) stories when i finally end up making them.

Now, are there any other websites, cookbooks, etc that can be recommended for healthier eating and beginning cookers?  I'm very open to trying new things and attempt cooking.  :)

~Spring~

PS: this isn't a healthy recipe, but it caught my eye and i CANNOT wait to try it... started salivating as soon as I saw it!! }:^)   So Not Healthy Yummy Gooey-ness!!

The only thing making something IMPOSSIBLE is your PERSPECTIVE

now, before I get into what started and inspired this blog, i have to admit that i struggled with what was the right word for my title.  Perception or Perspective.  I'm still unsure as I think either one would have been right.  But I also still doubt that either one is right. lol

per·cep·tion  [per-sep-shuhn]  noun

1.the act or faculty of apprehending by means of the senses or of the mind; cognition; understanding.
2.immediate or intuitive recognition or appreciation, as of moral, psychological, or aesthetic qualities; insight; intuition; discernment: an artist of rare perception.
3.the result or product of perceiving,  as distinguished from the act of perceiving; percept.
4.Psychology . a single unified awareness derived from sensory processes while a stimulus is present.

per·spec·tive[per-spek-tiv]  noun

1.a technique of depicting volumes and spatial relationships on a flat surface. Compare aerial perspective, linear perspective.
2.a picture employing this technique, especially one in which it is prominent: an architect's perspective of a house.
3.a visible scene, especially one extending to a distance; vista: a perspective on the main axis of an estate.
4.the state of existing in space before the eye: The elevations look all right, but the building's composition is a failure in perspective.
5.the state of one's ideas, the facts known to one, etc., in having a meaningful interrelationship: You have to live here a few years to see local conditions in perspective.

Now, sadly, this will bother me most of my morning.  I think I chose the right word, but then I always doubt/second guess myself. lol
 To The Point:
The reason for this blog is because of inspiration.  I was sitting at my computer at work, looking up images of balloons so i can start working on my drawing.  all the balloon clusters that i was drawing from my mind were coming out, quite frankly, looking a little like tapioca pudding or cottage cheese.  Unhappy with my imagination to hand skills, I decided to find something online that I could use as reference/inspiration to get a jump start on how i want my picture to turn out.  Lo & behold, this is what I found:
Now, I didn't believe this when I was reading the article.  I've heard of the men who have tried to tie balloons to their lawn chairs and take off, and those always have disasterous (yet hysterical) results.  But this man planned and SUCCEEDED in crossing the alps in a lawn chair tied to these things.  Grant it, as I was watching the video completely awe-struck, I started getting clammy skinned and hard to breath as I saw what was holding him up from falling to the world below.  It definitely affirmed my fear of heights and that I won't be rushing out to try this anytime soon.

but this man and what he does, it is inspiring.  Hes done what people thought was IMPOSSIBLE.  So it really is all about perspective/perception (seriously, let me know which you think is better. i whole heartedly think perspective but accept that i just maybe wrong).  if you think its going to be impossible and so you never try, it really is impossible.  But if you think its impossible and try, then you know what? you are a dreamer and a hoper.  Trying and failing is always better then not trying at all.  So when someone tells you "oh you can't do that, its impossible", you can turn around and ask them "have you done it? no? then how do you know its impossible?"

So go out there and dream big and dream vast.  Life is too short to sit there worrying and never living.  Prove that the impossible is a myth and inspire the world like this man has.  I know hes inspired me. :)
